In order to reach out to and increase support and services for underserved Washington State communities, Artist Trust's Community Matching Grant Program offers matching funds to community-based organizations to increase their local support for individual artists.Â
Since 1999, Community Matching Grants have taken place in the following communities:
Ellensburg (Ellensburg Art Commission): to formalize and expand the distribution of a local artist newsletter.
Methow Valley (Methow Arts Alliance): to develop a website for the valley’s artists.
Orcas Island: to develop the Orcas Island Artists Registry, to connect artists with their audiences, clients, customers, and one another.
2005 and 2006 Olympia (Longhouse Education & Cultural Center, Evergreen State College): to develop the Native Artist Creative Development Program, providing Washington Native artists with support to further their professional development.
2007: Yakima (Allied Arts of Yakima Valley):Â to commission a new public art project.
2008: Seattle (James Washington Foundation): towards the inaugural Washington Artist-in-Residence program. Recipients to be announced in January 2009.
2009: Seattle (Country Doctor Community Clinic): to
offer uninsured low-income artists a subsidy to help underwrite appointment costs. During this first year, a limited number of subsidies are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Eligible artists will receive $75 in credit towards their Artist Clinic bill from Country Doctor Clinic to a maximum of $150 per individual artist during 2009.Â
