About the Artist
Ann Gerike's (Coupeville) poems deal with World War One casualties and the development of facial reconstructive surgery. She received a 2008 GAP for travel to the Gillies Archives at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidkup, Kent where maxillo-facial surgery was developed, and in order to gain greater insight into the development of maxillo-facial surgery and its effects on patients’ lives, she visited the National Army Museum and Imperial War Museum, the Royal Army Dental Corps, and the Royal College of Surgeons in London to view and study 69 pastel drawings of damaged men. Gerike was also the recipient of a 2008 Founders Circle Award.
