About the Artist
Brian Murphy (Seattle) received a 2006 GAP to support his ongoing studio practice. Murphy is a painter with a focus on self-portraiture. “I paint self-portraits to become visible. I am interested in the idea of self-reflection and self-conscientiousness and in the potential of chance. I paint from direct observation, and, being available as both artist and model, I work from life directly. For me the daily practice of painting can be revealing and truthful,” says Murphy.
Brian also received a 2000 Fellowship.
