About the Artist
Christian Swenson (Seattle) received a 2010 GAP to pay artist rehearsal and performance fees, performance space rental and supplies associated with developing a new collaboration. Swenson is planning a six-month rehearsal period culminating in a performance piece blending a cappella voice and Human Jazz/Butoh-influenced physicality. Both artists involved in the collaboration have toured internationally and are known for their bizarre humor and intense portrayals of human/animal behavior. The final performance will be in an informal studio or gallery space. Viewers should expect beautiful and unusual vocals, extreme cartoon-like physicality, predator/prey behavior, mysterious and touching human interaction and the combined presence of two powerful solo performers.
Christian also received a Fellowship in 1990, and GAPs in 1988, 1996 and 1998.
