About the Artist
Doreen Mitchum (Seattle) works in arts administration, studied at the Columbus College of Art and Design, has a BA in Communications from The Ohio State University and an MFA from Howard University. She currently works in mixed media and kiln-formed glass. Decades of studying esoteric spiritual systems, lost civilizations and alternative archaeology has given her a vocabulary of sacred symbols drawn from the distant past. These material representations of cosmological philosophies inform her work and express ancient knowledge through the filter of her aesthetic. In her work she asks, “How can this recovered knowledge be of use to us today?”
