About the Artist
Eliaichi Kimaro (Seattle) received a 2010 GAP for costs associated with the development of her film A Lot Like You, a feature-length personal documentary which was recently featured in Kimaro’s profile in The Seattle Times. Kimaro is a mixed-race, first-generation American, with a Tanzanian father and a Korean mother. When her father, a career economist, retired from the IMF, he decided to move back home to Tanzania for good. Kimaro follows him and films his struggle to fit back in with the Chagga culture and family he abandoned 40 years earlier, discovering both the beauty and the brutality of the world her father left behind in the process.
