About the Artist
James Brown is a Seattle-based abstract painter. He began painting while studying architecture at Virginia Tech, after finding that designing for human scale and function limited the creative possibilities. James’ early paintings often allude to scenes of figures and structures while more recent work tends to focus on basic color and form relationships, freeing itself of identifiable scenery and depictions. James shows regularly in the Pacific Northwest and his work can be found in the collection of the Coos Art Museum.
