About the Artist
Surrounded by a forest of significant trees and woodland paths in her own backyard, Kirkland artist Joy Hagen’s encaustic paintings often reflect upon the subtle interplay of light and shadow with terrain. She utilizes salvaged HDL plywood in creating her woodland landscapes. Bees wax and wood are products of the forest that, for Joy, provide the complexities of emotion inherent in their use, and in the process…the forester’s daughter is revealed. Joy’s work can be found at Parklane Gallery in Kirkland, EAFA Gallery at Seattle Design Center, Swedish Medical Group Permanent Collections, and Kenmore City Hall.
