About the Artist
Julie Brooks (Seattle) graduated in 2002 with a BFA in Metal Design and a Minor in Anthropology.She received her MFA in Artisanry, with a concentration in Jewelry/Metals, from UMASS Dartmouth in 2008. Currently, Brooks is an instructor at the North Seattle College, and teaches workshops and classes at Pratt Fine Arts Center. She has been published in 1000 Rings, The Art of Enameling, 500 Wedding Rings, and Humor in Craft.
Julie received 2015 GAP funding to do necessary research for a body of artwork that she will develop into an exhibition, incorporating a personal narrative on the sensibility of home that associates those of the viewer. She plans to make sculptural and jewelry-based pinhole cameras, which will take the pictures of loved ones in places she has lived. The remainder of the grant is used to purchase supplies for photography and rental time in the fab labs.
