About the Artist
Katie Creyts (Spokane) is an artist and Associate Professor of Art at Whitworth University. She uses folk and fairy tales as a point of departure for her sometimes charming, sometimes naughty sculptures. The work is handicraft-intensive, including but not limited to blown glass and sewn fabric elements. She is a sculptor who weaves the imagery and artifacts of bygone ideals and morals into a contemporary dialogue. Katie has an MFA from Illinois State University, and a BFA from Tyler School of Art, Temple University. She has received scholarship for study at The Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, Pilchuck Glass School, and The Studio at the Corning Museum.
