About the Artist
Marissa Rae Niederhauser (Seattle) received a 2010 GAP to pay for costuming, props, installation and building materials, a cinematographer’s fee, rental of video equipment, and help with construction for a series of four performance pieces that will be filmed (by Niederhauser) and projected as part of an installation. Titled Some Things Bear Repeating, each performance will be filmed and then projected in the subsequent installation, producing a cumulative effect while each piece remains on view throughout. The artist will explore various topics, including: social networking; acquaintance rape; domestic violence and manipulation; morality tales; harmful social conventions; and the idea that we can’t truly own our personal stories, because we are in many ways a product of the world around us.
