About the Artist
Raised in Southeast Alaska, Peter Carlson (Eastsound) has lived all over the US and in Europe. His paintings spring vividly out of that diverse background; they are a mixture of reportage pieces, travelogues, pages torn from old books, snapshots, fragments of newsreel. They are wildly diverse in subject and setting but are unified by what one might call their muscularity of form, their physicalness: an aesthetic of hard work. Peter is a self-taught artist, and has been working in oils for about 15 years.
