About the Artist
Rebecca Dvorin Strong (Vashon) received a 2008 GAP towards the framing of 12 gouache paintings on paper using archival mats and anti-reflective museum glass. Rebecca’s symbolic tree self-portraits are a departure from her previous work. For the gouache studies, she uses white paint exclusively on black paper and, instead of using black and white paint in order to create gray tones, tonal contrast is created by how much black paper shows through the diluted white paint. Her gouache as well as oil paintings were on display at the Blue Heron Gallery on Vashon Island in June 2008.
