About the Artist
Rosalynn De Roos (Seattle) is a multi-instrumentalist, collaborator, bandleader of ChoroLoco and festival producer. Rosalynn graduated from Cornish College of the Arts in 2005 completing a Bachelors of Music Degree in clarinet performance. Since graduation Rosalynn has traversed the wondrous world of Brazilian music, exploring and expressing in musical styles of: Forró, Xote, Baião, Chorinho, Samba and Maxixe. As bandleader of ChoroLoco, Rosalynn has been performing throughout the Northwest festival circuit since 2008. Choroloco has also been heard on Sonarchy Radio, KEXP and Raízes aired on KCBS. In 2012 Choroloco was awarded a music residency at Jack Straw Productions, to record their debut album. Rosalynn has had the pleasure to collaborate with premier performing artists, organizations and bands including: Gin Hammond, Sheri Brown, P.A.N. and DiaPAN, Book-It Theater, Brazilionaires (Portland, OR) and Eduardo Mendonça. As a festival producer Rosalynn attempts to define the esoteric genre called Choro: vintage Brazilian jazz born out of Rio de Janeiro circa 1920s. This showcase will feature virtuosos: Geísa Dutra, Rio Con Brio, Brazilionaires and ChoroLoco at the Royal Room in Seattle, November 2012. Ms. De Roos’s core values as a performing artist include: building communities through sound explorations, the collectivist mindset within the creative process, harvesting new relationships across all artistic disciplines and opening a forum for participation within the community at large. Rosalynn currently resides in Belltown, Seattle.
Rosalynn received a 2012 GAP to help defray the costs of post-production, which includes mixing and mastering costs and CD duplication of ChoroLoco’s first feature length album. Rosalynn has immersed herself wholeheartedly in the tradition of infectious rhythms and nostalgic melodies, and she intends to record ten standard pieces from the Choro repertoire as well as feature original compositions composed by the ensemble.
