About the Artist
Tom Hughes (Vashon) currently lives and works in the Puget Sound area. His dad is a poet. He tries to read difficult books. His artwork has been exhibited internationally; most recently at Global Village 2012, in the Netherlands, France and Denmark, and earlier in Rome and Brasilia, Brazil. Domestic exhibitions highlights include Alternating Currents: Beyond/In WNY, Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, NY, and the Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art in Staten Island, NY. Hughes earned his MFA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
Tom received a 2012 GAP to defray costs of producing his solo debut exhibition at Gallery4Culture in Seattle. This major installation piece will be a construction of one of several temporary cardboard architectural structures. The structures will house text that will function as inner narrative and stream of consciousness for the structure.
