“Joyful Connections” includes the color-saturated and sometimes whimsical paintings of flora and fauna by Kathleen A. Johnson. Sometimes referred to as the “crow lady,” Kathleen often features crows and other birds in her paintings. She named her Edmonds-based business, Two Crows Studio, for two fledgling crows she encountered. “I have always had an interest in birds, particularly crows,” she says. “I feel that they help keep humans in touch with the natural world.”
The artist’s love of color and the feeling she has for her subjects is evident in her paintings. Whether it is viewing heron chicks at the Edmonds waterfront, or observing the raccoon, opossum, or crow families growing up in her own yard, Kathleen finds joy in the connections she makes in Nature. Collectors often remark on her ability to capture the personality and spirit of her subjects. After viewing her work, people are often inspired to share stories of their own animal encounters. Kathleen invites visitors to Gallery North to share their experiences with animals in a guestbook she will have on display during the show.
The public is invited to two special events at Gallery North during May. There will be an artist reception for Kathleen A. Johnson on Sunday, May 7, from 1-4 PM, and another reception during the third Thursday Art Walk Edmonds, on May 18, from 5-8 PM. Gallery North is located at 401 Main Street in downtown Edmonds. This show is open seven days a week through May 31.
