Overview

Black Lawrence Press seeks to publish intriguing books of literature and creative non-fiction: novels, memoirs, short story collections, poetry, biographies, cultural studies, and translations from the German and French.

We are currently in an open reading period and are taking submissions outside of our contests. Here’s how to submit:

Black Lawrence has gone electronic. In the interest of reducing the use of paper and postage, we now only accept submissions via e-mail. If we think that your manuscript might be right for Black Lawrence Press, we may request that you mail us a hard copy.

* Please put your name and title of the manuscript in the subject line of the email.
* Be sure your manuscript contains a cover page with your name, the manuscript’s title, and that contact information is clearly stated. 
* Collections of poetry or short stories should include a table of contents. Furthermore, if selections of the collection have appeared in publication elsewhere, an acknowledgments page is appreciated. This also applies to chapters of full length works (novels, memoirs,etc.) where excerpts have been previously published.
* We prefer PDF files, but will also look at .doc files or .rtf files.
