Overview
Founded in 1999 , Creative Capital is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to providing integrated financial and advisory support to artists pursuing adventurous projects in five disciplines: Emerging Fields, Film/Video, Literature, Performing Arts and Visual Arts. Working in long-term partnership with artists, Creative Capital’s pioneering approach to support combines funding, counsel and career development services to enable a project’s success and foster sustainable practices for its grantees. In its first decade, Creative Capital has committed nearly $25 million in financial and advisory support to 372 projects representing 462 artists, and has reached an additional 4,000 artists through its Professional Development Program.
SELECTION PROCESS
Our process includes three steps: inquiry, application and panel review.
AWARD CALENDAR
February 1 – March 1, 2012: Letter of Inquiries accepted online
June 2012: Notification of advancement to application stage
September 2012: Notification of advancement to panel review
January 2013: Announcement of awards
ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible for a Creative Capital award, an artist must be:
• A U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident
• At least 25 years old
• A working artist with at least five years of professional experience
An applicant cannot be a full-time student.
AWARD DISCIPLINES
- Emerging Fields may include architecture/design, digital arts, gaming, interdisciplinary, new genres and sound art.
- Literature may include fiction, genre-defying literary work, nonfiction and poetry.
- Performing Arts may include dance, dance-theater, experimental music performance, interdisciplinary, multimedia performance, music-theater, non-traditional opera, performance art, puppetry, spoken word and theater. The focus is on the live performing arts.
