Overview
The Cultural Partnerships Program invests in cultural organizations, youth arts programs, individual artists, and community groups to increase residents’ access to arts and culture, and to promote a healthy cultural sector in the city. The Cultural Partnerships Program offers technical assistance and provides grants to arts and cultural organizations throughout the City.
As a member of the Cultural Partnerships team, this position will ensure customer access to programs and services, promote the value of the arts and culture in the City of Seattle, and raise the visibility of the public benefit provided by the department.
Job Responsibilities:
- Act as project manager for community funding programs by managing accessible, equitable and accountable application and peer panel processes, provide technical assistance and feedback to applicants, efficient contract stewardship and documentation of impacts.
- Deliver relevant information, tools and technical assistance to artists, arts organizations and community groups in project development and implementation.
- Represent the department within City government and to the community, cultivating awareness of our programs, making new contacts, responding to inquiries and developing strategic partnerships.
- Participate in team efforts to facilitate collaborations between artists, arts groups and cultural organizations with a particular emphasis on neighborhood arts councils and community-based cultural groups.
- Research and write content for communications materials as assigned.
- Requires a professional level knowledge of issues in contemporary arts disciplines and arts program management. Candidates must have strong communication skills, both orally and in writing, and must be able to work effectively with a variety of community groups and representatives.
- Program guidelines and department priorities, policies and procedures are interpreted and applied. Judgment is required in monitoring arts projects to ensure compliance with contract requirements and timelines.
- Contacts include individual artists and community organizations, arts professionals, City employees, and the general public for the purpose of coordinating work and providing technical assistance.
Required Qualifications: Two years of professional experience in project management and program development, including experience with arts and cultural organizations, artists and community groups; arts administration; public speaking; and a baccalaureate degree in Fine Arts or a related field (or a combination of education/training/experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class). Strong oral and written communications skills plus excellent customer service experience. Demonstrated commitment to create and sustain a workforce free of racism and discrimination and that values multiculturalism and diversity as a workforce and community asset. Proficiency with computers and software applications including Word and Excel. Available to work occasional evenings and weekends. Driver’s license or equivalent mobility.
Desired Qualifications: Demonstrated relationships with a wide range of artists, arts and cultural organizations and community organizations. Background in arts administration and arts in education a plus. Experience working with diverse communities and immigrant populations as well as in grants management, grant-writing or panel review process preferred. Able to work under pressure and under tight deadlines as well as successfully work on multiple projects simultaneously, both independently and as part of various teams. Proactive, problem-solver, organized, creative, efficient, flexible and able to work well with a variety of people and personalities. Self-starter, able to take initiative and follow through.
