The show is open to all artists in the Seattle Area, and all arts based media will be considered, including writing and collaborative projects.

No Campbell’s Soup is a multimedia art installation exploring the relationship of food and feminism.
The title, No Campbell’s Soup refers to the historic shift to industrialized foods and back again, with the rise of alternative food movements. It also acknowledges the use of domestic imagery by male Pop artists such as Andy Warhol, who gained fame with his depictions of the Campbell’s tomato soup can at a time when most women avoided domestic images in their art for fear of not being taken seriously as artists.
This concept is inspired by the imagery of Daisies, a Czechoslovakian feminist farce. This eccentric film relies on food and eating rituals as symbolic of class, gender, sexism, excess and pleasure.
No Campbell’s Soup is an exploration of women’s diverse definitions of nourishment and the accompanying rituals and symbols.

- Along with changes in available foodstuffs and the accompanying cultural shifts, how have societal values about who should eat what, and the truth of who can eat what transformed?
- How are individual diets shaped by societal values? Economic status? Ethics? Gender roles? Beauty Standards?
- What are the meanings behind choices individual women make about how they acquire food, prepare food, consume, cook, eat, share? How do women express themselves through food?
- How can the nourishment of oneself, family, friends or community be framed as empowering and feminist acts?

These are the questions, the inspirations, the conversations, we will explore with No Campbell’s Soup. Your contribution is welcome and desired.
