National Writers Union (NWU) offers a Job Hotline and is a nationwide, nonprofit alternative to job shops, temp agencies, and brokers. The Hotline is a way for employers to locate the writers they need, and writers to find jobs. The NWU offers a dental-vision-life insurance package to members. Membership is available to those who have published a book, a play, three articles, five poems, a short story, or an equal amount of newsletter, publicity, technical, commercial, government, or institutional copy. Dues are based on annual writing income. The NWU offers contract advice and grievance resolution as a benefit of membership.
