Overview

The Marketing internship provides an opportunity to learn basic marketing and public relations skills including advertising, promotion, social media marketing, and public information. The internship includes opportunities to research, write and post content to the Bumbershoot blog, and administer the Festival’s profiles on Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, YouTube, Google+, and other social and rich media sites, developing these virtual communities as a tool to engage with Bumbershoot’s audience. This intern will learn first-hand about industry trends, target audiences and how to reach them, the basics of creative development, community relations, and project management of marketing initiatives in the arts and entertainment industry.

Responsibilities:
- Research, write and post content to the Bumbershoot blog.
- Administer the Festival’s profiles on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Flickr, YouTube, and other social and rich media sites.
- Assist Marketing department with marketing, advertising, and promotion research and execution as directed.
- General office support, photocopying, errands, data entry, etc.
- Assist PR Coordinator on-site with Bumbershoot Press Room facilitation.
- Write post-event recap notes, and assist w/ wrap-up as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements:
- Be a proactive, self-starter
- Be highly organized with great attention to detail
- Be creative with a sense of adventure
- Have a sense of humor
- Possess a “Can Do” attitude / be a team player
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are a must; journalistic or blog writing samples will be closely evaluated. This position best suited for an active writer with definitive voice.
- Affinity for music, art, entertainment, and pop culture
- Great familiarity with the Internet is important, especially social sites, virtual communities and the blogosphere
- Computer skills: proficient in MS Office, and comfortable with databases
- Organizational skills and strong attention to detail
- This job requires rigorous physical work during events. Interns must have the ability to lift at least 25 lbs. and spend significant time standing and walking.
- Special consideration will be given to candidates with a course of study in journalism, marketing, PR, or communications and to individuals with interest in the arts and entertainment industries.
- Must be willing and available to work during event days, including the Family Fourth at Gas Works Park (July 4, 2012) and the entire Bumbershoot Festival weekend (September 1–3, 2012)
