Overview
Strait Art returns to the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center for 2012. The showcase of artists who make their homes in Clallam and Jefferson Counties will again be presented in an expanded space through a simultaneous satellite show at nearby Peninsula College, March 18 – May 13. In a biennial collaboration with PC’s art department the show will spill over to the Peninsula College Gallery in the Pirate Union Building.
Strait Art is never a competition. There are no entry fees or prizes. It is rather a curatorial exploration of art being made in this most Northwest corner, a search for relationships and contexts that provide a sampling of our own regional flavor of contemporary art.
Selections will be made by PAFAC director Jake Seniuk and PC art professor Michael Paul Miller, who will be on the lookout for original visions, developed style and mastery over materials in any medium. Each artist will ideally be represented by four works, two at each venue.
For the 4th year the Enter Stage Left Performance Series will accompany the visual fare at the Center. On most Friday nights, throughout the exhibition’s run, the Center will host musical, literary, and theatrical presenters, providing opportunities for artists and performers to come together in a multi-disciplinary arts community.
Visual artists please submit images of 8-20 examples of your best work. Of these at least 4 should be available for the show. Submit images in jpg format via email or disk. Please include a slide inventory identifying each piece with title, medium, dimensions, date of creation.
Performing artists (musical, literary, theatrical) please submit a demo CD or texts or link to your website.
All artists please include a resume or short bio. An artist’s statement is optional.
Please email your application materials to pafac@olypen.com. Alternately you may drop off or snail mail to 1203 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles, WA 98362. If materials need to be returned by mail please submit a stamped, pre-addressed mailer.
Final deadline for entry is February 24 but please submit as early as possible.
