We would like to invite you to submit a proposal for participation in 2 different exciting events planned for 2012. First off on Earth Day, April 21, at the New York Fashion Academy in Ballard, Seattle, Washington and again on June 8 & 9, 2012 at the Intiman Theater in the Seattle Center as part of The Next Fifty, a 6 month long series of events celebrating the 50th anniversary of Seattle Center and the 1962 Worlds Fair. http://nextfifty.org Our event is known as:
Trash Fashion Futures: Illuminating the Challenges, Imagining the Possibilities .
Wearable Art from waste materials & Multi Media design concepts are welcomed.
The event planned for April will be one evening… one show.
The theame of this year’s event is “How much is too much?”
There will be no event planned by us for Bellingham this year.
We no longer have RE Store as our sponsor, but we hope that they will be involved on other levels. Monies collected from this show will go to producing the bigger more elaborate event at the Intiman in June.
Designs selected to be shown in the April show will not be eligible to be shown again in the June show.
The New York Fashion Academy does not have the capacity to accommodate elaborate multi media designs, so these should be reserved for the Intiman in June.
You may apply for both shows with the same or different designs and our jury will work with you to decide about the dates and details if your work is selected. Please make note of this on your application.
For The Next Fifty it will be our job as artists to interpret through the medium of Trash Fashion design and associated mixed media, how we can illuminate the challenges we envision ourselves facing in regards to our consumption and waste, in the world and in our community throughout the next fifty years and to imagine the possibilities of how we, collectively and as individuals will embrace those challenges.
We encourage you to think BIG and outside the box. We are seeking proposals for individual and group designs. Designers selected to be exhibited will be allowed 1 to 6 pieces depending on size and content.
We ask you to consider entire collections based on a common theme, as well as fashion based environments that might transform while on the stage/runway. We are also seeking big recycled materials art that can be displayed in the 2 story lobby of the Intiman Theater.
Associated with the Fashion Shows will be a post-show exhibit of select pieces displayed in the Grand Foyer Windows of McCaw Hall. The exhibit will be visible from within the foyer, as well as from the courtyard walkway between McCaw Hall and Pacific Northwest Ballet.
To add to the fun, we are planning some Trash Fashion Guerilla Art Attacks throughout the community and at Seattle Center during the month prior to the shows and also afterward to bring attention to the exhibit at McCaw Hall.
The Big Idea: Positive Change, Educational Illumination, and over the top creativity…. all from, and regarding society’s waste.
Proposals shall be accepted through March 15, 2012. You will be notified by March 25, 2012
