Liability Insurance: Insurance for what the policyholder is legally obligated to pay because of bodily injury or property damage caused to another person.

Artists are often asked to provide liability insurance for their events or exhibits. Two examples are: performing artists who are selected by 4Culture for the Special Projects Grants each year are required to provide special event coverage for their performance or show; or artists working in the public art realm are often required to provide liability insurance during the installation of their work and sometimes even after installation. It is important to check with an insurance agent to make sure you have the liability appropriate to your work and activities as an artist. The cost and coverage of liability insurance is decided on a case-by-case basis and is determined on the particulars of your situation.
Increasingly, insurance is just a part of doing business including the business of art. And whether it is health insurance, small business insurance, or liability insurance, most artists find themselves searching for answers to their insurance needs. In an effort to help you with an entry point, we offer the following list of companies that can help you with your liability insurance needs. It is recommended to contact each company (because each one is quite different) and ask the same questions, to find the best fit.
