SouthEast Effective Development (SEED) Arts
SEEDArts began in 1977 as a modest undertaking that recognized the role of the arts within a community and how the arts could be used to build cultural awareness and understanding. Over the years, the program has grown substantially and today serves as a model for visual and performing arts and arts education programs throughout the region. SEEDArts is Southeast Seattle’s leading, and in some disciplines, only provider of high quality, culturally relevant arts experiences for the area’s astoundingly diverse residents.
Between now and 2010, the Rainier Valley will be the nexus of tremendous change. From Seattle Housing Authority’s intensive redevelopment efforts to Sound Transit’s construction of light rail through the spine of the Valley and the consequent commercial investment in previously sleepy business nodes, the fabric of Southeast Seattle is changing. In the midst of this change, SEEDArts is being called upon to address the real and potential cultural isolation of the people in our diverse and dynamic neighborhoods and to help steward the cultural identity of our community through this uncertain period of revitalization and upheaval.
Rainier Valley Cultural Center – SouthEast Seattle’s only community performing arts center, RVCC presents multicultural performing arts events and hosts two drama companies. The Center offers rental space for community events, meetings and productions.
