Artist Trust is excited to celebrate art and artists in Port Townsend and the Olympic Peninsula. From September 15-24th, Artist Trust will host events, workshops, Office Hours, and showcases of artists. See below for a full listing of events. Port Townsend is the final stop of the statewide tour; Artist Trust has already visited Spokane, Bellingham, Tacoma, and Seattle.
First, at Artist Trust on Tour, four award-winning artists from the Olympic Peninsula and Bellingham will come together at the Cotton Building on September 15 to perform, read, play music, and celebrate art on an unforgettable night. The event is free with RSVP. The Port Townsend event will feature literary, performance, and visual arts by artists from the Olympic Peninsula and Bellingham. Attendees will also be invited to a happy hour before the event, also at the Cotton Building, with beer and wine provided.
The Peninsula artists featured at Artist Trust on Tour are traditional Japanese dancer Kazuko Yamazaki from Bremerton and poet Linda Bierds from Bainbridge Island, and the artists visiting from Bellingham are multi-disciplinary performing artist Jenna Bean Veatch and musician David Feingold. For bios of each artist, see below. Artist Trust Program Director Brian McGuigan will host the event.
The goal of Artist Trust on Tour is to celebrate the work of the artists from across the state, connect artists from different disciplines and regions, and create community among artists. The “On Tour” cities chosen are the five most arts-minded areas in Washington State according to the Creative Vitality Index: Bellingham, Spokane, Seattle, Tacoma, and Port Townsend. Each event showcases the work of four artists from different disciplines who have been supported by Artist Trust’s grant-making and professional development programs. Artist Trust is proud to announce the Seattle Art Fair as the presenting partner of Artist Trust on Tour.
Artist Trust continues their programming in Port Townsend with two workshops to provide skills to artists, and two Office Hours, a free grant-writing support program for artists of all disciplines. Workshops offered are “How to Build Your Audience Online” on September 17, and “Writing your Artist Statement and Resume,” on September 18. Office Hours will occur in Sequim on September 16 and in Port Townsend on September 17.
While all of this is going on, dozens of visual and literary artists will be completing Artist Trust’s EDGE program at Centrum. The immersive EDGE Program is a 50-hour comprehensive survey offered through a hands-on, interactive curriculum. The final showcase for EDGE visual artists is on September 17, and the final reading for EDGE literary artists will be on September 24th. The literary EDGE instructors, Elissa Washuta, Nicole Hardy, and Kristen Young will also do an EDGE instructor reading at Northwind Art Center on September 20th.
