ResidenceSeattle, WA, USA Place of BirthSeattle, WA, USA Personal Statement          It’s a typical Seattle morning, grey with a little drizzle, but warm enough to work outside. Five pulls on the cord of my chainsaw and I am even warmer. Sawdust, exhaust and the roaring engine. I am roughing out a new wood head sculpture. I will go on to use adzes, chisels, rasps and sandpaper to refine it, some chain saw marks will be left for texture. It will be a portrait of an African woman; no one in particular, the wood will dictate some of the face. I remember doing this same work in West Africa only it was 90% and humid. Another memory comes: a reoccurring dream I had as a child, big heads peering at me through the trees in a forest. Wow, 20 years of doing art and here I am making those same heads.
