ResidenceSeattle, WA, USA Place of BirthTucson, AZ, USA BiographyTikka Sears is a director, actor, multimedia theater artist, and educator. The first part of her new collaborative multimedia theater piece, "work created under compulsion", premiered at the 2007 Northwest New Works Festival at On the Boards and the full length production will be presented on September 1st 2008 at 6:30PM at Bumbershoot and Sep 3-6 at 8:00PM at the Seattle Center House Theatre. Tikka was a Fulbright Artist-in-Residence in Indonesia for two years and has toured the solo performance of Marsinah Accuses to six U.S. cities. She co-created, directed and toured, "Choice and the Hunter's Machine" with the Black Umbrella Theater in Indonesia and will return in 2008 to develop a new performance piece with the same company. While in Indonesia she studied traditional Javanese dance and martial arts as well as acting in a wide variety of theater performances. Ranging from outdoor folk comedies, a piece about the Bali bomb, to national television broadcasts. She performed extensively with the Black Umbrella Theater and toured with them across Indonesia and to the Laokoon Festival in Germany. Sears has received grants from Artist Trust, 4Culture, Seattle Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture CityArtist Program, the American-Indonesian Exchange Foundation, JakArt International Festival and the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta. In addition to theater work Tikka has earned a certificate from the University of Washington in Documentary Video Production and has worked on numerous films and multimedia projects as a videographer, director and editor. Tikka also conducts theater residencies and workshops for school children, in Elementary Schools, Middle Schools High Schools and University Students. Sears is an artist educator for the Bainbridge Island Arts in Education Consortium.
