About

Shephali Patel is a multimedia writer and artist, raised by the land of the Lenape along the Muhheakantuck; or what we now refer to as the banks of the Hudson River in northern NYC. She continues to be educated by the wisdom of the mystic traditions of her grandmothers’ lineages in India and the lands of the Coast Salish people. Her creative practice is intimately tied to her work as an intersectional climate justice activist. She believes art is the most powerful tool we have to design the future worlds we truly want to live in. Her art is also influenced by her identity as an immigrant; and she uses it as a medium to explores stories told about who she is and what it means to be at home. Her creative nonfiction has been published in Parabola Magazine and Spiritual Ecology. Recently, she is experiencing a shift in how stories want to flow out of her – primarily through acoustic dimensions rather than just from a static page. She is following this impetus and is dedicated to refining her practice of the traditional art of oral/aural storytelling to amplify the cosmologies of frontline BIPOC communities, engender interspecies dialogue, nourish deep listening, and illuminate the narratives of the sonic landscapes that hold us.
