About

Jennifer Berney writes to explore the human state of longing. She is interested in the ways that individual stories illuminate broader historical narratives, and the ways that queer expression can challenge the status quo. Her essays have appeared in Tin House, The Offing, Brevity, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and many other publications. Jennifer holds an MFA in Creative Writing from The University of Washington, and teaches at South Puget Sound Community College.

Jennifer received 2019 GAP award funding to support travel and research for her manuscript The Trying Years, a nonfiction book exploring the legacy of lesbian parenthood and the history of donor insemination.

Artist Trust thanks the Amazon Literary Partnership for underwriting this award through Artist Trust’s Corporate Partnership program. For information about supporting Washington State artists, visit here.
