About the Artist

Always in love with color, Andrea (Port Townsend) received her M.F.A. from Parsons School of Design. Her vibrant paintings and whimsical prints have been exhibited nationally and in Europe, and she is the recipient of numerous awards including the King County Arts Commission, Art Port Townsend, and the Helena B. Rubenstein. In 2013 she received a Tomie dePaola Award Honorable Mention. Collections include CMFA, Massachusetts, and the Ronnebacksholm Arts and Culture Centre, Denmark.

Andrea’s work combines expressionist gestures with an observation of nature. “Working with color and the viscous character of paint, my gestural Rite of Spring series is inspired by dance movement. In my paintings, I seek to address man’s connection with the natural world.”

Lawson is a Published and Listed member of The Society of Children’s Book Writer’s and Illustrators. She is currently writing and illustrating a children’s book about dancing. Andrea teaches workshops to all ages including “The Voyage of Creativity,” which was taught aboard the historic schooner, Martha. Her studio overlooks The Port Townsend Bay where she lives with her husband, Michael Hamilton, a furniture designer, and their two daughters.
