About the Artist

Brent Watanabe (Seattle) discovered an interest in art during the early 1990s, designing poster art for punk rock bands in and around Seattle. He received his BFA in 1995 from the University of Washington with a concentration in Painting. He stumbled into film and video when hired to create an animated music video in 1996, and continues to explore how drawn images can dynamically co-exist with video and audio. He still works primarily in video, animation, and computer controlled installations, often incorporating found home videotapes, high school yearbooks, cultural detritus, and pencil drawings. Brent’s work has been screened in film festivals and exhibited internationally and throughout the region. He received an award from the American Film Institute in 1997.
