About the Artist
Debbi Commodore (Tacoma) is interested in the value and importance society gives to places, objects, and materials. She explores this subject in interactive sculpture in the form of artist books, relief printing and paper cutting. Through the utilitarian beauty of the sculpture and materials, or through the simplicity of black outline and bright flat color, viewers experience multiple layers of engagement. Her work can be grouped into three themes, urban community, using materials outside of their intended utility and flora & fauna. The themes found in her work are fluid and intersect with one another.
