About the Artist
Diane Sarr grew up in Michigan earning her Bachelor of Fine Arts at Michigan State University in 1975, and then in 1977 participated in the MSU partner Studio Art Studies at the University of London as a graduate assistant. Following an artist in residence and membership in local Ann Arbor Gallery, Diane moved to the Northwest.
Her work in Washington has included ten years of Layout Design and ten years of teaching High School Drawing and Graphic Design. These influences along with traveling have resulted in a minimalist approach in a current series of visual glimpses with maps and a series of mono prints. Each utilizing techniques of layering, line and contrast to depict a visual moment. Diane’s inspiration comes from places she has lived or traveled. Those brief take away moments end up as the visual memory of those places visited, sometimes representational and at other times more abstract as in the mono print series.
