About the Artist
Ellen Miffitt brings 40 years of experience in the arts to her personal expression and art instruction. Growing up in rural Connecticut established her close relationship to earth and nature. Transplanted to the Pacific Northwest, she started painting sumi-e in 2002 with Fumiko Kimura and registered Nine Lives Studio.
As an artist I am constantly involved with the process of transformation: spirit to image, ideas to form, exploring materials and combining techniques. For me, a natural extension of Sumi-e is making paper, creating collage, mixed media, modeling precious metal clay and exploring watercolor pencil media for my creativity.
