About the Artist
Ellen Ziegler (Seattle) investigates the psychological and physical properties of materials through drawing, assemblage, and multimedia. She is a member of SOIL, an artist-run gallery in Seattle.
Ellen was awarded 2008 & 2012 GAP Awards from Artist Trust, a Foundation for Contemporary Art (NY) Travel Grant, and Individual Artists Grants from 4Culture in King County, as well as a Rome Fellowship from the Civita Institute. She was featured at the 2011 Sofia Biennale in Bulgaria and participated in Antony Gormley’s One and Other in London with an interactive performance at Trafalgar Square's Fourth Plinth using a video-activated mirror. She is also an award-winning maker of artists' books, which are in collections nationwide. Her books are represented by Vamp and Tramp Booksellers.

With the Artist Trust Fellowship I’ll be able to focus deeply on a new body of work – creating an iconography for the color indigo – that builds on the history, significance, uses and resonance of the color vermilion.
