About the Artist
Joana Stillwell (Seattle) works primarily in video, photography, and installation. She is interested in childhood, domestic spaces, and playful materials. During moments of downtime, she uses these materials to perform meditative examinations. It becomes a dialogue between her, the material, its functions, and connotations. Through a semiautobiographical perspective, she aims to address a breadth of personhood including elements of idealization, balance, anxiety, and control. She has been exhibited in Gallery 4Culture, Seattle Storefronts, Interstitial Theatre, and SOIL Art Gallery. Joana received her BFA in Photomedia and BA in Art History from the University of Washington.
