About the Artist
Jordan Alam (Bellevue) is an emerging artist and a recent creative writing and psychology graduate of Barnard College. Her award-winning pieces have been featured on The Rumpus and BlackGirlDangerous. Jordan is also the founder and a current editor of Project AsAm, an online Asian American social justice publication.
Jordan received 2015 GAP funding to support research and travel connected to her novel “Ondhokar,” a story of three American Bangladeshi daughters left to cope with the death of their only family member in the US: their mother who lived in Washington State. Funds will be applied to travel and living costs associated with a research trip to Bangladesh in the latter half of 2015 and with research in the United States to compare the aspects of immigration, healthcare, and social services that inform the novel’s US-based sections.
