About the Artist
Nikki deRelle (Seattle) is deeply interested in covering blank spaces and shapes with pattern and texture. She is inspired by the color and patterns of tropical fish and animals, the textures in the sand after a storm, tropical ferns, and birds. She is also influenced by current street fashions of London, Sydney, and Tokyo, where you often see amusing contrast in texture, pattern, and scale. Like tile workers she seeks to fill in interesting shapes and spaces with colorful designs. Trained in silk screen, lithography, surface, and clothing design, instead of tile, she uses fabric, paper, paints, clay, and found objects.
