About the Artist
Tara McDermott (Seattle) uses the camera to record the sublime in the ordinary. She overlaps layers of film before scanning them together and finishes with encaustic wax to add a layer of texture and opacity. The result is a way to capture fantasy and dreams, to tell a story. Her subjects are those you need to slow down to experience – the weeds in an abandoned lot, an open meadow in the Cascade mountains, or an abandoned farm in North Dakota. More of her work can be found at the Columbia City Gallery.
