Give for GAP on #GivingTuesday!

Emily Dennis

Annual Fund & Events Manager

Today is #GivingTuesday, a national day of giving and a great reason to support our fall campaign! Every dollar donated today goes towards supporting Washington State artists of all disciplines with the funding, training, and resources they need to thrive. We’re excited to feature 2018 GAP recipients today, as they share in their own words the impact of funding on their work and practice. Your gift will go towards supporting artists like them as they take risks, fuel change, and lead us bravely into the future.

““Jumping Into Fire” is a documentary that uncovers the hidden story of the only all African-American paratrooper unit in military history. Hidden stories like this one are part of a larger narrative about race and racism in this country. This grant will help bring this story to light.”
- Dr. Robert Bartlett, Spokane County

“I am so grateful for this award that will allow me to pursue a dream project and purchase tools needed for my artistic advancement. I’m looking forward to using the project as a community connector and bringing more light to the subject of limiting beliefs about people with disabilities.”
- John Furniss, Clark County

“Receiving this GAP award lets me know that Artist Trust recognizes the importance of indigenous voices telling our own stories. This award will move my essay collection closer to library shelves where I hope it will both sustain and challenge readers.”
- Ruby Hansen Murray, Wahkiakum County

“I work in isolation, alone in the grit and churn of writing where it is easy to lose momentum. Receiving a GAP award has helped energize my project and has provided a boost of affirmation that I am charting a necessary if fraught course forward.”
- Putsata Reang, King County
.
“Getting a GAP makes me feel like maybe I’m not so crazy after all, pursing art as a career—like maybe I can pull this off—maybe I AM pulling this off - and maybe what I do and what I make is not just liked, but NEEDED.”
- Cicelia Ross-Gotta, King County
