For my Meet the Artist event, I offered a 45-minute concert and talk for residents at Sunrise of Bellevue, an assisted living facility. The program centered on my electric theorbo, the instrument I designed and built, as well as the music I wrote and arranged for it, a song cycle titled Old-Fashioned Love Songs. I performed several classical selections (Pachelbel’s Canon in D, Kapsberger’s Toccata Arpeggiata and a Spanish Romanza), several jazz songs (Speak Low and Love is Here to Stay) and some of my own original music.
Of all the times I have played in facilities like this, the audience here was the most attentive and appreciative. Following the presentation, we had a lively question-and-answer session.

Artist Trust’s Meet the Artist program is an integral component of the annual Artist Trust Fellowships. Every Fellowship recipient presents an event outside of their geographic area of residence or to a community that would not ordinarily have access to their work. Meet the Artist bridges our artistic community with the diverse communities in Washington State, increasing awareness about the vital roles the arts and artists play in our culture.
