Enjoy an artist residency at the historic Marsh House in Bellingham Washington.
Irish built in 1897, the restored home is located in the quiet residential, family Columbia Neighborhood. It is a successful short-term rental licensed with the City and has operated for over 8 years with 5 star reviews.
Beginning in 2024 painter and home owner Rebecca Meloy is now offering a ‘Five Day Residency’ for individual artists and writers (no pets/children/partner), at a 30% discount off regular short-term rental rates.
To Apply
You are welcome to apply at any point, year-round. Please send an email to rebecca@rebeccameloy.com with your name, address, bio, statement, website link, and a description of what you would like to accomplish. Please indicate 3 options as to which month and week you are most interested in attending a residency.
Timing & Cost
The residency is available during the months of September through April. It is offered at the reduced rate of $500 (includes tax) for a 5 night retreat beginning on a Sunday at 4 pm through Friday at 10 am. Upon acceptance, a half deposit of $250 is due to reserve. Payment in full is due no later than 4 weeks prior to your arrival. No refund within 4 weeks of arrival.
Art Collection Donations
A poem/essay/small art creation is appreciated to add to the collection of residency guests / participants.
Private Upstairs Accommodations
Kitchenette, refrigerator, table, sitting room, bedroom, tv, books, bath, skylights, air conditioner, fans, washer / dryer, vacuum cleaner, small indoor work room, summer ‘Folly-Tiny Hut’ outdoor painting studio. Rebecca lives downstairs with two corgis and a cat lives on the front porch. There is street parking and no accommodations for RVs.
Location
Near the harbor / Bellingham Bay, in a residential neighborhood. Walking distance or short bus ride to Downtown. Nearby is the beach, Bellingham Airport, grocery store, Whatcom Museum, Meloy Gallery, assorted galleries, restaurants, pubs, music, parks, walking paths, bicycling, WWU International Sculpture Garden, and WWU Gallery.
Writers
There is high speed wifi internet.
Acceptable Media
Indoor/Upstairs disciplines may include computer, acrylic, watercolor, gouache, spinning, weaving, water-based inks, paper cuts, drawing, collage, sewing, knitting/handwork. No art materials that have an odor or are flammable, please, and no fabric dying. Artists bring their own tools and materials.
Outdoors Folly/Tiny Hut is reserved exclusively for oil painting. There is a loft, so maybe meditation and floor yoga could occur.
