INVITATION FOR ARTIST PROPOSALS

Our vision for ACES is to establish a space for artists of color to celebrate and center ourselves. We are coming together with intentionality to value our work and see one another as resources, while focusing on the challenges and solutions we face as artists of color in the Pacific Northwest. If you are an artist of color, or a person of color who supports the arts through resources and knowledge, we invite you to answer our call for artist proposals.

The inaugural ACES in 2017 included two full days of 80 activities, with 75 paid artists and $10,000 awarded through the Office of Arts & Culture’s smart Ventures grants. The programs included keynote presentations by Nikkita Oliver and Paul Rucker, along with artist talks, storytelling, public art, film, dance, and workshops including Creative Justice, Effective Networking, Wisdom of Elders, Filipinx Femme Voices, Creation in the Midst of Crisis, and The Commodity of Blackness.

In 2020 we again invite you share all the ways you express yourselves through art, by showcasing your paintings, sculptures, photographs, installations, dances, movements, songs, poems, monologues, films, and more.

We also invite you to share your expertise as artists, teachers, healers, curators, business professionals, mentors, and arts organizers by leading us in workshops, presentations, listening sessions, and open forums. Let’s share our works, experiences, and resources to support one another in all the ways that are meaningful to artists of color.

Together we can build a stronger community for all artists of color. In solidarity, in securing that bag, and in celebration!

Applicants must be:

• 15 years of age or older; young people are often not invited or included in important discussions and are especially encouraged to apply.
• Washington State residents and those who are infusing the Pacific Northwest with their radiant and invaluable melanin.
• Creatives and those who are the originators of works of art, ideas, and scholarship.

CONVOCATORIA PARA PROPUESTAS ARTISTICAS

Nuestra visión para ACES es el establecimiento de un espacio para que celebrar y centrar a artistas de color. Nos juntaremos con la intención de valorar nuestro trabajo y vernos los unos a los otros como recursos y apoyo mientras nos enfocamos en las soluciones a los desafíos que encontraos como artistas de color en el Pacífico Noroeste. Si tú eres un artista de color o si eres una persona que apoya a las artes a través de recursos y experiencia, te invitamos a participar en nuestra convocatoria de propuestas.

El primer ACES, en 2017, incluyó dos días con 80 actividades, 75 artistas pagados y $10,000 otorgados a través de los subsidios para Smart Ventures de la Oficina de Artes y Cultura. Los programa incluyeron presentaciones por Nikkita Oliver y Paul Rucker, al lado de pláticas con artistas, relatos de historias, arte público, filme, danza, y talleres. También te invitamos a compartir tus experiencias como artistas, maestros, curanderos, curadores, profesionales de negocios, mentores, u organizadores. Guíanos a través de talleres, presentaciones, sesiones de escucha y fotos abiertos. Compartamos nuestro trabajo, experiencias u recursos para apoyarnos en todas las formas importantes para artistas de color.

Juntos podemos crear una mejor comunidad para todos los artistas de color. En solidaridad, en seguridad, y en celebración!

Los solicitantes deben:

• Tener 15 años o más; la gente joven, quienes muchas veces no son invitados o incluidos en discusiones de importancia, son especialmente alentados para aplicar.
• Ser residentes del estado de Washington y que estén infundiendo el Pacífico Noroeste con su radiante e invaluable melanina.
