The Twisp Creative District seeks an artist or artist team to design and lead the creation of a community mural on the Methow Arts office building located at 204 E 2nd Ave in Twisp. The mural design must capture the spirit of Twisp, its creative culture, and align with the mission of Methow Arts.
The selected artist will develop the mural design with input from community youth and facilitate at least one community paint day where youth and residents can participate in painting the mural. The community paint day’s theme should be building community belonging and encouraging youth to participate in civic engagement. The artist or artist team will work directly with Methow Arts staff to engage youth in the design process and to plan and promote the community paint day.
Wall Information:
• Location: Methow Arts building, 204 E 2nd Ave, Twisp, WA
• Wall dimensions: Approximately 18 feet tall and 23 feet long
• Surface material: Smooth stucco

Eligibility: Open to individual artists and artist teams. Artists from outside the Methow Valley are welcome; lodging will be provided for working visits. See Lodging below.
Budget: Total project budget: $15,000. This includes design fees, materials, artist fees, and coordination of the community paint day.
Lodging: Lodging will be provided for artists as needed, duration will be negotiated with artists once selection process is completed.
Insurance: Artists and artist teams will be required to carry general liability insurance of at least $1,000,000. Proof of insurance must be submitted before contract execution. Artists who do not currently carry coverage should note this in their proposal; the TCD may be able to provide guidance on affordable options.
Submission Requirements:
• Artist statement describing your experience with public/community mural work (1–2 pages)
• Portfolio of relevant mural or large-scale public art work (5–10 images with captions)
• Brief description of your proposed approach to community engagement and youth involvement
• Preliminary mural concept (written description; sketches or mood boards welcome but not required)
• Proposed budget breakdown
• References (2–3 professional contacts, at least one from a previous community art project)
• All documents must be submitted in a single PDF to twispcreativedistrict@townoftwisp.com with the subject line, Community Mural RFP.
Timeline (Approximate):
• RFP Release: April 1, 2026
• Proposal Deadline: April 30, 2026
• Artist Interviews: May 4–8, 2026
• Artist Selection: May 11, 2026
• Community Engagement & Design Development: TBD based on artist selected
• Community Paint Day: August 2026
• Final Completion: No later than September 1, 2026
Selection Process: Proposals will be reviewed by a Twisp Creative District selection committee. Finalists may be contacted for an interview or clarification before a final decision is made.
