We are excited to announce the 2022 Artist Trust Endurance Grants! A total of $100,000 reached 40 Washington State artists experiencing a financial emergency, with each artist receiving $2,500. See the full report below for demographic and other data about our applicants and recipients, how the grants were developed, and what’s next for this program and our team!

This foray into emergency support for artists was new for us. Our COVID-19 relief work began in March 2020 and lasted for two years. Through that program, we supported hundreds of artists across the state with over $900,000 in emergency funding. As those final dollars were granted, we continued to hear from artists that the need for emergency support was not over. In a recent survey of our COVID-19 Relief Fund recipients and program attendees, more than 80% of respondents stated that emergency funding continued to be their community’s biggest need, and where Artist Trust could make the greatest impact. The Endurance Grants are a direct result of that feedback. This funding represents our continued commitment to support Washington State artists at all stages of their careers, including when times are the toughest.

“Receiving the Artist Trust Endurance Grant gives us peace of mind and that we can put more energy into our artistic practice, rather than financial worry.” -Esther Ervin, King County

The Endurance Grants were created with input from national and statewide partners, our artist focus group members, Valencia Carrol, Eunice Kim, Marilyn Montufar, James Pakootas, our panelists, Abha Sharma, James Pakootas, and Chris E. Vargas, and our internal Strategic Vision & Stewardship Committee. The program was made possible thanks to support from our individual donors, along with support from the Artist Trust Board of Trustees andCERF+,with partnership from the Mellon Foundation.
