About

A native of Seattle, Alana O’Farrell Rogers studied ballet and modern dance internationally in Ireland, France, New York, and Massachusetts. She returned to Seattle in 2000, where she has been making dance works ever since. Her work has been commissioned by several major dance venues and festivals in the Pacific Northwest including ChopShop Bodes of Work, the Seattle International Dance Festival, On the Boards, Velocity Dance Center, and the BOOST Dance Festival, among others. Her choreography is highlighted with fearless athleticism, crisp technique, and a poignant and quirky emotional sensibility. She prizes theatricality, vulnerability, and honesty above many other things. She has received support from the Seattle Office of Arts & Culture and Velocity Dance Center’s Creative Resident program.

Alana received GAP 2016 funding for Into Ice, a dance work divided into three parts: Into Ice, Kingdom, and Home. Each section investigates a different aspect of Artic life: the ice, geography, and flora; the animalistic reality of life-cycles and survival; and the human perspective including notions of adventure and the ensuing desire to return home.
