About

Allie Hankins is a choreographer who explores image-making and the codification of body language as a choreographic catalyst. A Seattle resident since 2008, Allie has presented her works at On the Boards’ NW New Works Festival, Patrick’s Cabaret in Minneapolis (as part of the SCUBA National Touring Network for Dance), Velocity Dance Center, PICA’s TBA Festival, and Conduit Dance. As a collaborator, Allie performs as part of Seattle-based dance/sound performance company Salt Horse, has designed movement for experimental theater ensemble Implied Violence (with which she toured to New York’s New Island Festival and Austria’s DonauFestival, under the tutelage of Robert Wilson’s Watermill Center). Allie was recently granted a residency at Robert Rauschenberg Foundation facilities in Captiva, FL for the spring of 2013.

Allie received a 2012 GAP to allow her to leave her day job for the duration of the Rauschenberg Residency and to help fund a showing of her final work at Velocity Dance Center in Seattle. She will develop and complete her work, Like a Sun that Pours Forth Light but Never Warmth, which highlights themes of transfiguration and surrender unique to bodies in spiritual crises. Her work draws from the life and roles of famed dancer Vaslav Nijinsky.
