About
Amanda Koster received 2006 GAP Award funding to purchase materials and services for a new series of photographs, and to travel to Morocco to photograph female musicians of the country’s Roudaniyate and Chaouen Tribes. These musicians practice an exclusively female tradition of singing praise songs to the region’s Islamic saints as well as mystical songs in praise of the divine. Amanda produced and exhibited photographs from the trip for the 2006 Northwest Folklife Festival. In 2008 her book of social documentary photography, Can I Come With You?, was published by Bennett & Hastings.
